COMMUNITY BASED HERITAGE STUDY

The Harden Shire Community Based Heritage Study is on track to deliver a draft thematic history of the Shire by Mid November.  The draft will examine how the history of Harden Shire fits into a set criterion of themes as identified by the NSW Heritage Office.

Reviewing the draft and providing community input is very important; as a community it is our job to correct any errors or oversights, fill in any missing gaps in the draft and provide additional information that helps tell the historical story of Harden Shire.

The historian undertaking the Study visited Harden Shire in early July to gather information and was very impressed with the level and amount of information we have available locally.  This information is currently being checked against the central archives in Sydney and any inconsistencies or gaps identified and researched.

Once this assessment is finalised, reviewed and the Historian, Community Committee and Council are satisfied that the data is correct, the next stage of the study will commence.  This will involve the production of a list of items or places that have a historical significance.

Ultimately, once the Study is complete this document will become quite powerful in assisting Council and the Community source grant funding for restoration and protection of historical sites, as well as being able to assess the impact of new development on these sites. more ..

RECYLING HITS HARDEN MURRUMBURRAH

By now all residents of Harden-Murrumburrah who are on the kerbside domestic waste collection service should have received their new red lidded bin. It is important that you read the letter that comes with the new bin, as it contains all the information you need to commence this new service. If you are still having difficulty in understanding what you are supposed to do, please make sure you contact Council for assistance.

For the Villages of Galong and Jugiong, recycling bins will be introduced at the Transfer Stations shortly, along with the new supervised hours of operation. These will be advertised prior to commencement, with a trial period also to be included.

Once again I would like to thank the members of the Recycling Focus Group for the tremendous effort they contributed towards the development of this service. more ..
