About the shire

LOCATION

Harden Shire is located in the South West Slopes Region of New South Wales and is adjacent to both Capital Country (ACT, Canberra Region) and the Riverina Region in the South West area of NSW.

The Shire is traversed by the Hume Highway, being the major link between Sydney and Melbourne, in the eastern portion of the Shire and also by Main Road No. 84, which is the major link from the Riverina and South Australia to the Hume Highway and ultimately Sydney and the Coast.

The Olympic Highway traverses the western end of the Shire and is the major link through the Central West to the Blue Mountains and from there to the Sydney Region.

The Shire is ideally located for travel to the metropolitan areas, being 3.5 hours away by road from Sydney, and 1.5 hours from Canberra and Wagga Wagga. Harden Murrumburrah is serviced daily by the XPT passenger rail service - just two reasons why the region is so popular with visitors from other areas.
